Betsy began making pots in 1998 when she enrolled in a beginning wheel class at The Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC. At the time she was doing an Internship with the museum to complete requirements to graduate from The College of Charleston. After graduating, Betsy moved to the North of the state and eventually began commuting to White County where she had the privilege of using the studio of Jessie Meaders to begin cultivating what she had learned in the brief class at The Gibbes. The Willows Pottery opened soon after and upon hearing of her interest in pottery, she was offered a job running the shop and making pots. Along the way, between work and travel, Betsy has had the opportunity to work with several potters, attend the Penland School of Crafts in NC, and assist in teaching classes at The John C Campbell Folk School.
